Pedroia Runs Riot As Red Sox Pummel Giants

BOSTON - Dustin Pedroia spoiled Barry Bonds' first visit to Fenway Park with five hits and five RBI as the Red Sox mauled the San Francisco Giants 10-2 in Interleague play on Friday.

Pedroia went 5-for-5 and hit a two-run homer off Barry Zito in the first inning to take the spotlight from Bonds, who went 1-for-3 but just missed a home run when he hit a long fly ball that went foul in his first at-bat.

The Red Sox rookie keyed a nine-hit Boston attack with a career-high in both hits and RBI in a single game, and said he could not remember getting five hits in any game in the minors.

"I think Little League was the last time," Pedroia said. "I don't know. It's kind of exciting."

Bonds is stuck at 747 homers as he continues his pursuit of Hank Aaron's career record of 755. He has hit just five homers in the past six weeks but his foul ball was close to being No. 748.

"He (the umpire) called it," Bonds told reporters. "It's not my call."

Bonds, who had never been inside Fenway Park before, was booed every time he came to bat.

Manny Ramirez's RBI groundout put the Red Sox ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning and three fourth-inning runs gave Boston a big lead off Zito (6-7), who allowed seven runs on five hits in just 5-1/3 innings.

Julian Tavarez (4-4) allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings to pick up the win and two relievers completed the eight-hitter.

J.D. Drew had three hits, scored three runs and drove in another three for the Red Sox, as he and Pedroia accounted for eight of the nine Boston hits. Dave Roberts had two hits for the Giants.
